Sport in Indonesia.

Sports in Indonesia are very popular from its participation in the international arena. The most famous sport in Indonesia is football, followed by badminton. Sports event in Indonesia organized by the National Sports Committee of Indonesia or KONI. This organization, as well as the Indonesian government has set National Sports Day on September 9.

History.

In the Indonesian culture, there is no involvement of physical exercise as a modern sport. Football is the most popular sport in Indonesia. This sport is played by many people, from children to adults. Liga Indonesia is very famous in Indonesia. Some of the famous club is Persija, Persib Bandung, Persebaya, PSM Makassar, PSMS Medan, PSIS Semarang, Barito Putra, Sriwijaya FC Palembang, Persik Kediri View events, and Arema Malang. National football body is PSSI. Liga Indonesia has started since the Dutch colonial era. In 1993, the PSSI combine two leagues into one, which came to be known as the Liga Indonesia.
In the international arena, Indonesia is very poor experience though is the first Asian team to qualify for the World Cup in 1938 (as the Dutch East Indies). In 1956, Indonesia played in the Olympics and played a tough game with the national team of the Soviet Union, led by goalkeeper Lev Yashin. As the host, Indonesia won the gold medal for football in the Asian Games in 1962. Indonesia was first entered the Asian Cup in 1996. With a draw against Kuwait in the first game, but failed when they were beaten by two strong teams, namely South Korea and the United Arab Emirates Arabic, making the Indonesian national team home early.
Indonesian national team often took part in the Asian Cup. At the 2004 Asian Cup, the team scored its first victory after defeating Qatar national team, but the glory that should be dispersed by the time the team was in the second round when it was defeated by China and Bahrain. Indonesia successfully beat Bahrain in the 2007 Asian Cup but failed again after being defeated by two strong teams Asia, South Korea and Saudi Arabia.

Badminton.

Badminton is a sport that is most successful in Indonesia. Indonesia has won a gold medal in badminton at every Olympics since badminton included in the Olympics in 1992. In 1992, the gold medal was won by Alan Budikusuma in men's singles, and Susi Susanti in women's singles. In 1996 Ricky Subagja and Rexy Mainaky won the gold medal in men's doubles. In 2010, DBL Indonesia PERBASI pointing to handle competition and change the league name to the National Basketball League (NBL). Now, Indonesia and the Philippines is one of the basketball powers in Southeast Asia. Polo and other equestrian sports are very historic in Indonesia, polo has been started since 1930 in the Dutch colonial era. When the monetary crisis in 1998 ended, equestrian sports, including polo began to be known by the Indonesian polo players.
