Understanding Karate.

Karate (空 手 道) is a martial art that originated in Japan. Karate martial arts brought into Japan via Okinawa. This martial art was first called "Tote" which means like "China Hand". Time karate to Japan, Japanese nationalism when it is high, so that Sensei Gichin Funakoshi changed the kanji Okinawa (Tote: Hand China) in Japanese kanji become 'karate' (empty Hand) to be more easily accepted by the people of Japan. karate consists of two kanji. the first is 'Kara' 空 and means 'empty'. and secondly, 'te' 手, meaning 'hand'. are two kanji together means "empty hand" 空手 (pinyin: kongshou).

According to Zen-Nippon Karatedo Renmei / Japan Karatedo Federation (JKF) and the World Karate Federation (WKF), which is considered as the main styles of karate which are:
Shotokan
Goju-Ryu
Shito-Ryu
Wado-Ryu
Fourth flow style of Karate is recognized as a major because it participates in the formation of JKF and WKF.

But the style of the world's leading karate is not just four styles over the course. Several large streams such as Kyokushin, Shorin-ryu and Uechi-ryu spread to various countries in the world and is known as the famous Karate flow, although not included in the "big 4 WKF".
In Japan, an organization that embodies all of Japan Karate sport is JKF. The organization for the whole world is WKF Karate (formerly known as WUKO - World Union of Karatedo Organizations). There is also ITKF (International Traditional Karate Federation) which embodies traditional karate. The function of the JKF and WKF Karate is mainly to confirm that is "no direct contact", in contrast to the flow of Kyokushin or Daidojuku that "direct contact".

Karate is divided into three basic exercises such as the following :

Kihon, 

Namely practice basic techniques of karate techniques such as hitting, kicking and parry.

Kata, 

Namely practice karate moves or interest.

Kumite, 

Namely training or sparring match.
In today karate can also be divided into traditional and stream flow sports. Traditional flow more emphasis on self-defense and combat techniques while sporting a more concentrate flow techniques for sporting events.

Karate techniques.

Karate techniques are divided into three main parts: Kihon (basic techniques), kata (stance) and Kumite (fight). Advanced pupils are also taught to use weapons such as sticks (bo) and ruyung (nunchaku).

Kihon.

Kihon (基本: き ほ ん, Kihon?) Literally means the base or foundation. Kihon Karate practitioners must master well before studying Kata and Kumite.
Kihon training starts from studying punches and kicks (white belt) and dings (brown belt). On stage or Black Belt, the student is considered to have mastered the entire kihon well.

Kata.

Kata (型: か た) literally means shape or pattern. Word in karate is not only a physical exercise or regular aerobic. But it also contains a lesson about fighting principles. Each word has a rhythm of movement and different breathing.

Bunkai is an application that can be used from the basic movements word.

Each stream has a different movement and different names for each word. For example: The word Tekki in Shotokan stream known as Naihanchi in flow Shito Ryu. As a result Bunkai (application of the word) of each flow is also different.

Kumite.

Kumite (組 手: く み て) literally means "meeting of hands". Kumite is done by students advanced (blue belt or more). But now, there is a dojo that teaches kumite at the beginner level students (yellow belt). Before doing kumite free (jiyu Kumite) regulated practitioners learn kumite (go hon kumite) or (Yakusoku kumite). To kumite sports stream, better known as Kumite Kumite Shiai or match.

To stream in Japanese Shotokan, kumite only by students who have reached level and (black belt). Practitioners are required to be able to keep his punches so as not to injure friends compete.

To stream "direct contact" as Kyokushin, Karate practitioners already accustomed to doing kumite since blue belt strip. Kyokushin practitioner allowed to launch a kick and punch with all his might towards the opponent's play.

To stream as Wado-ryu combination, the technique consists of a combination of Karate and Jujutsu, then Kumite is divided into two kinds, namely for the preparation Shiai Kumite, which is trained only techniques that are allowed in the game, and Goshinjutsu Kumite Kumite or for self-defense, all techniques used, including Jujutsu moves like dings, locks, and attacking vital point.

Karate matches.

Karate match is divided into two types, namely:
Kumite (fighting) sons and daughters
Word (stance) sons and daughters

Kumite.

Kumite is divided into individual kumite with class divisions based on weight and kumite team without weight class division (for son). Used game system is reperchance (WUKO) or half a chance back to athletes who never defeated by the champion. Shotokan: Kankudai and Jion.
Wado-ryu: Seishan and Chinto.
Goju-ryu: Saifa and Seipai.
Shito-ryu: Seienchin and Bassaidai.

In Kumite Shiai used by Forki which refers to the rules of the WKF, ideally using a mat with a width of 10 x 10 meters. The mat is divided into three colors: white, red and blue.
